John Galliano

John Galliano is chief designer for Christian Dior, the French couture house owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA.

Gibraltar-born Galliano studied design at City and East London College of Textiles and Art and Design (now City and Islington College) and graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (now Central Saint Martins) in 1984.

The British designer, who elevated the romantic, bias-cut dress to new heights, launched his eponymous label shortly after graduation. In 1995 he was named chief designer at LVMH’s Givenchy. In that throne, he guided both ready-to-wear and haute couture. The next year, Galliano ascended to designer at LVMH’s much-coveted Christian Dior, winning out over Jean Paul Gaultier for the job.

Galliano has gone on to train designers to cut everything closer to the body and to create elegant, feminine silhouettes that have come to be favored by Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet.
